How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Cooling

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Staying up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a few other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can accumulate around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, at least rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down faster. We want your air conditioner to last as long as possible.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfortable. Whenever possible, take advantage of additional cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to premature system failure.
